A Message from Miss Laura

This recital marks my 30th year as a dance instructor, my 20th year with VSB and my 10th season as Owner & Director of VSB. This significant milestone has given me cause to reflect over my career in this industry and community. It is a wonderful thing, to be able to do what I love. I gratefully appreciate the opportunities and support that Vegreville has given me.

This dance season has seen much growth with our dancers. As you will have noticed on your way in, we had a wonderful festival season, and our dancers were recognized for their talents and hard work. We are so proud of our dancers and look forward to adding to the trophy and plaque displays in our studio lobby.

In addition to these achievements, I have had the joy of observing the smaller, quieter moments; older dancers making time on their way off stage to smile and talk with younger dancers (and vice versa), congratulating each other on wonderful performances, helping each other with costume and hair mis-haps, words of encouragement to help calm nerves of their fellow soloist.

Quieter yet are the moments in class of dancers working hard to improve their skills. There are repeated push-ups, lunges, ab-work, releves, tendus and more that build their strength and flexibility. Working through the disappointment of losing a skill after injury, but pushing to gain it back. Knowing that their goals will take a long time and a lot of work to achieve, and going for it anyway. Moments as simple as a Little Mini dancer lining up politely for a sticker or keeping their hands to themselves all class. Or our senior dancers building time-management skills as they add jobs and the demands of high school to their schedule, while still showing up for their commitments to their classmates. These are the skills our dancers are building that will help them as they move into their future. I know I speak for all of our teachers, when I say, these are the moments we love the most.

Thank you to all the families who made the commitment to support your child at VSB this season. Running them to classes, festivals, rehearsals while keeping them fed, rested and healthy isn’t easy, and we appreciate you more than you know.

Thank you to the teachers, Miss Abbe, Miss Jorja, Liss Lauren and Miss Pauline for all the work you have put in behind the scenes and in your classes, to create terrific choreography that allows our dancers to shine. The love you show for dance inspires the next generation to be confident and work toward their goals.

Thank you to our Junior Instructor, Miss Emily Malo for all you have done to help this year, from assisting and subbing classes, helping run our events. You are so appreciated!!

Thank you to our class assistants: Becca Allan, Chailyn Gara, Bailey Sanford, Brianna Pooke, Anna Vozniuk, Samantha Weleschuk. Your help with younger classes not only allows for smoother classes, but also inspires our younger dancers and creates connections across age groups that unite our VSB family and our community. Thank you for all you do!

Thank you to the VSB Parent Association, without your help and support this performance as well as many of our other events throughout the season would not be possible.

Thank you to the talented Sarah Wormsbecker for the beautiful photos this season and for recording our recital.

Thank you to my husband, Nathan and kids, Liam and Ella for your help and support and probably most importantly for their patience. My passion for dance and teaching impacts my time with my family significantly. I appreciate the sacrifices and allowances they have made this year, and throughout my career.

I have to say a bittersweet goodbye to our only Graduating Dancer of this season - Layne Lowes. Layne has been a part of VSB since she was 3 years old - that’s 15 years of seeing each other every week! There have been many smiles and a few tears as well in our time together. With your drive and strength of character, I know you will do wonderful things. I will miss you, but am so proud of who you have become. I wish you all the good things, Miss Layne.

Finally, thank you to our dancers for your love of dance - you are the reason I do this!

Enjoy the performance!
