Solos, Duets &
Extra Choreography

Solos and Duets are a wonderful way to grow your dancer's skills and confidence. They will receive one-on-one instruction and choreography tailored to their strengths and unique style, allowing them to shine.

Solo & Duet Information 2025-26

Festival Registration:

In late October/November, Miss Laura will be sending out a registration form to everyone on her list. This is where you select which festivals you will attend with the solo/duet. After the due date for this form has passed, accounts will be billed with the fees for selected festivals.

VSB will only register solos and duets for festivals that have paid their Festival Fees before November 30th..

Costumes:

In late October/November the VSB office will be sending a form to order costumes. Quotes will be sent, orders will only be made if parental approval for the quote is received and the bill is paid. Late orders will not be accepted.

VSB will only order costumes for solos and duets that have paid their Costume Fees before November 30th.

Please note:
  1. It is not required for solo/duet costumes  to be ordered through VSB, but this is an additional service that can be accessed. Each family is welcome to find other sources for costuming.

  2. All costumes need to be approved by your teacher.

Please read the following page of VSB Extra Choreography Policies prior to committing.

VSB Extra Choreography Policies 2024/25

  1. Arrangements for extra choreography are to be made with your instructor with fees that are at their discretion, as they are contractors. Please contact your instructor directly for availability and pricing.

  1. Please register your routine with VSB so your dancer can be registered for festivals. This can be done by email to Miss Laura at vegrevilleballet@gmail.com. Failure to do this may result in your dancer not being registered for festivals or included in performances.

  1. Festival Fees are additional to your choreographer’s fees. You will be sent a form in late October to fill out for festival attendance. Following this, your account will be billed accordingly. Registration in festivals will require payments for these fees to be made on time - if payments are not made, dancers will not be registered in the festivals. These fees are non-refundable.s

  1. Costuming is the responsibility of the dancer and parent(s). However, Miss Laura must approve it and can help in ordering if needed. Ordering costumes will have additional fees and these must be paid prior to your dancer’s costume being ordered. Orders and payment for solo costumes are due on October 31st. More information will be sent to parents of registered soloists/duets. These fees are non-refundable.

  1. Learning and perfecting an extra routine takes a great deal of extra effort by the dancer(s), teacher and parents. It is expected that dancers will be committed to putting in extra time into these routines so they will be properly prepared.

  1. Parent involvement is necessary to ensure an at home practice schedule is set, that each student knows their choreography when returning to next class, rehearsals are attended and costuming is appropriate and completed on time no matter the age of the student.

  1. Sportsmanship will always be shown on and off the floor by dancers and their families as representatives of VSB.

  1. Dancers must be enrolled in and attending the VSB group class of their chosen genre to participate in extra choreography. Example: a dancer wishing to perform a Hip Hop Solo must be registered in and attending a VSB Hip Hop class.

  1. Acro - Acro tricks are very risky and mistakes can have detrimental effects. With this in mind, we have created the following policies for Acro dancers:

    1. Acro Soloists must choose A certified Acro Dance Teacher for the choreographer.

    2. Acro Soloists must be enrolled in and attending Acro Tech and their respective Acro Choreo class at VSB.

    3. Dancers wishing to do Acro tricks in choreography of other genres (ie Jazz or Hip Hop):

      1. Must be enrolled in and attending an Acro Tech class at VSB, as well as their classes in their chosen genre.

      2. Must have already mastered every choreographed trick and have approval from their Acro Tech teacher .

      3. Must have their solo reviewed for approval by Miss Laura for safety.

      4. Your choreographer must know how to spot any tricks included in the routine.

      5. No more than 3 Acro tricks can be included in choreography of another genre.

  1. Miss Laura and VSB have the right to refuse extra choreography if requirements are not met. Routines that do not meet the above criteria or that are not being performed properly may be pulled from any festival or performance with no refunds.

Solo & Duet Booking

If your dancer is interested in a solo or duet, the first step is to find a teacher to choreograph their dance. This is done by filling out the form using the links below:

Please note:

  1. Forms will need to be filled out for each solo.
ie - if Sally wants both a jazz and a musical theatre solo with Miss Pauline, the form will need to be filled out twice.

  2. Filling out this form does not guarantee that you have a spot with this instructor. Teachers will be in touch to confirm with you and move forward to the consultation/contract stage as they are ready.

  3. Teachers are independent contractors, so their fees, booking system, schedule, etc. may be different from each other.

  4. Make sure you understand how their rehearsals work, how flexible they are able to be regarding their schedule, how they divide the rehearsals, etc. before signing your contract.
